Leading Philippine telco and digital services provider PLDT has further expanded the reach of its fiber-to-the-home (FFTH) services by deploying its FTTH facilities in east Metro Manila, adding over 70,000 lines that would provide access to world-class internet service to more homes in the country’s key urban centers.
PLDT’s FTTH roll-out covers the cities of Antipolo, Marikina, Pasig, Taguig, Caloocan, and the towns of Taytay, Cainta, and Pateros, enabling residents from villages like Brgy. Kaunlaran in Caloocan, Antipolo Hills Subdivision, Greenbreeze Phase 2 and 2A in Marikina, and Greenwoods Executive Village in Pasig, among other areas, to experience PLDT Home Fibr’s world-class internet service in their homes.
“PLDT Home continues its efforts to create Fibr-powered PLDT Smart Cities nationwide to enrich the lives of more Filipinos through our innovative digital services and connectivity solutions. The network rollout in East Metro Manila will provide powerful connections and top-of-the-line services that will benefit both its residents and businesses,” PLDT FVP and Home Business Head Oscar Enrico A. Reyes, Jr. said. “Our vision is to make Fibr-fast internet available to 4.4 Million homes by the end of the year and we are working very hard to realize this vision.”
PLDT Home Fibr will enable East Metro Manila subscribers to not only do swift browsing of multiple websites but also have equal upload and download speeds. PLDT’s fiber customers will also be able to enjoy the best entertainment options from PLDT Home’s renowned global content partners, including US-based streaming pioneer Roku. FTTH allows the seamless and stable streaming of high definition (HD) video content minimizing latency and pixelization.
“The recently-launched Roku Powered™ TVolution box offers a new entertainment experience for Filipino families that allows them to bond over their favorite movies and TV shows from over 100 streaming channels including Cignal TV, Netflix, iflix and YouTube. Families also benefit from added peace of mind through PLDT Home’s SmartHome devices like the home monitoring system Fam Cam, the cyber security platform Fam Zone and the multi-functional kiddie gadget Smart Watch which parents can use to track and contact their kids,” Reyes pointed out.
The FTTH expansion in east Metro Manila communities is the latest phase in PLDT’s aggressive nationwide fiber expansion program. It has already transformed key urban areas into Fibr-powered PLDT Smart Cities starting with Toledo City in Cebu, General Santos in Mindanao, Naga City in the Bicol region, as well as South Metro Manila.
Currently, PLDT’s FTTH service has passed 3.3 million homes, only six months after it reached around 2.8 million homes as of end-2016.
PLDT is also deploying hybrid fiber technologies, such as Huawei’s G.fast which can boost data speeds of current subscribers up to 600-700 Mbps over copper lines.
PLDT has invested P300 billion or billion over the last 10 years to roll out the country’s most extensive fixed and wireless network that includes a transmission and distribution network infrastructure which now has 150,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables, transporting the growing data traffic of its fixed line and mobile networks.
