Inamin ni Pangalawang Pangulong Teofisto Guingona na niyayaya siya ng grupo ni Fernando Poe Jr., na maging tagapayo, ngunit hindi pa siya nakakapagdesisyon kung tatanggapin niya ito.
Sa ulat ng Inq7, sinabi raw ng tagapagsalita ni Guingona na bukas ang Pangalawang Pangulo sa posibilidad na makasamasa administrasyon ni FPJ. Pero nais niyang matiyak na isasama ng artistang kandidato sa kanyang plataporma ang mga layunin ng Bangon!, isang makabayang kilusan na pinamumunuan niya.
Nais din daw makita ni Guingona ang “dynamics of the people around FPJ.”
Sabi naman ng AnakPawis party-list group, pumayag man o hindi si Guingona na maging tagapayo ni FPJ, dapat gayahin niyang gayahin ang paninindigan ng Pangalawang Pangulo sa usapin ng kasarinlan.

Beltran said that Guingona’s stands on issues affecting national patrimony and independence should be emulated and adopted by all aspirants for the presidency. He said that Guingona is a tried and tested patriot. “Whether or not VP Guingona agrees or not to be Poe’s adviser, Poe is being challenged to adopt the same positions the good vice-president takes on matters of national independence and internal security,” he said.
The veteran labor leader said that Poe is already surrounded with various advisers, but it appears that the advice he is being given is steering him away from the grassroots people’s organizations.
“Vice-president Guingona, on the other hand makes himself open and available to people’s organizations and dialogues with them on various economic, political and military issues. He listens to the views and opinions of the organizations of the basic sectors. No doubt, Guingona’s first advice to Poe would be to listen to the voices of the marginalized people and not be easily swayed by his politician advisers who might well be projecting their own political ambitions through him,” he said.

“Macapagal-Arroyo has flunked all these standards; and so far, there isn’t a candidate for president who has stated a clear-cut bias for the poor and working people. All of them, however, have hastened to convince the business community and big landowners of their support and plans to prioritize business reforms in their platforms, ” sabi pa ni Beltran.
