Na-bad trip ang kinatawan ng grupong Gabriela kay Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez dahil sa mga pahayag nito tungkol kay Julia Campbell–-isang dakilang Amerikanang nagsilbi sa mga mahihirap na pamayanan sa Pilipinas ngunit ginantihan lamang ng karahasan.

Sabi kasi ni Raul, careless daw si Julia. “She was a little irresponsible. Why would she walk alone in this remote mountain? I think, [if she had a companion], it would not have happened. She was careless that she took a lonely walk in this deserted area. Maybe she was confident [of being familiar with the countryside].”

Kakaiba talaga si Raul, oo! Sana iginalang niya ang namatay, lalo pa’t si Campbell, isang US Peace Corps volunteer, ay nagmalasakit nang buong puso sa ating mga kababayan.

Sagot tuloy ni Rep. Liza Maza ng Gabriela, si Gonzalez ay isang “pambansang kahihiyan.”

“Sec. Raul Gonzalez’ statement on Julia Campbell is deplorable. It is macho, irresponsible and disrespectful of the dead. Gonzales, as a full blooded macho, is resorting to victim blaming. He is a national shame,” wika ni Maza.

“Whether Ms Campbell was victim of foul play or it was simply an accident, she cannot be blamed for her own death. Mr. Gonzalez simply could not stop himself from spewing venom after venom. He just kept racking up evil points from women,” dagdag pa ni Maza.

Ayon sa Gabriela Women’s Party, consistent daw si Gonzalez sa anti-women stance nito. Nauna nang hiniritan ni Raul sina Kris Aquino, Susan Roces, at “Nicole.”

May mga pagkakataong nakakatawa ang mga hirit ni Raul, pero hindi lahat ng nakakatawa ay nakakatuwa. Sa mga panahong may dapat ipagluksa, mas makabubuti sigurong ang mga tulad niya’y mag-isip muna bago magbuka ng bunganga.
