GMA News TV remains a formidable force to reckon with in local television, taking the third slot of the most-watched channel in free TV in Mega Manila.
From the period of July 24 to October 15, GMA News TV has pushed its way up next to industry leader GMA Network and second ranked ABS-CBN, and tied with TV5 for the third spot based on data from the industry’s trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
Setting the pace for GMA News TV are its various news programs, bannered by midday news bulletin “Balitanghali” and the channel’s flagship newscast, “State of the Nation with Jessica Soho” (SONA).
Both “Balitanghali” and SONA have been recognized as Best News Program over the years. Anchored by Connie Sison and Raffy Tima, “Balitanghali” provides a noontime roundup of the latest and biggest news from Mondays to Fridays. “Balitanghali Weekend,” in turn, airs on weekends and is anchored by Mariz Umali and Jun Veneracion.
Known for giving depth and context to news headlines, SONA remains one of the most trusted and most-awarded news programs on Philippine television today. Just recently, the Catholic Mass Media Awards recognized it as Best News Program for 2016. At the helm of SONA is GMA News pillar and Peabody-awardee Jessica Soho.
Other top-rating programs that help fuel GMA News TV’s strong performance include afternoon newscast “GMA News TV Quick Response Team” (QRT), the hourly “GMA News TV Live”/”GMA Breaking News,” daily regional news broadcast “Balita Pilipinas Ngayon,” and public affairs and lifestyle shows “Motorcycle Diaries,” “Ang Pinaka,” and “Idol sa Kusina.”
Since its launch in 2011, GMA News TV continues to be the home as well to a number of the country’s most awarded documentary programs such as “Reel Time,” “Brigada,” “Investigative Documentaries,” and talk program “Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie.”
And as part of its commitment to provide viewers quality programming, GMA News TV also produces well-crafted lifestyle shows such as information and magazine programs “Good News Kasama si Vicky Morales,” “I Juander,” “Pop Talk,” “Taste Buddies”; travel show “Biyahe ni Drew”; talk show “MARS” and “Tonight with Arnold Clavio”; cooking program “Everyday Sarap with CDO”; reality show “Day Off”; drama anthology “Wagas”; and sports program “News TV All Sports.”
All these are just manifestations of how GMA News TV continues to respond to the ever-changing needs of the viewing public — and clearly succeeding every step of the way.
