Noong People Power 2, “guilty” ang hatol ng taumbayan kay dating Pangulong Joseph “Erap” Estrada sa mga kasong bribery, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust at culpable violation of the constitution na isinampa laban sa kanya sa di natapos na impeachment trial.

Pagkatapos ng anim na taon, guilty rin ang hatol sa kanya ng Sandiganbayan sa kasong pandarambong dahil sa paulit-ulit niyang pangongolekta ng umabot sa mahigit 50 milyong pisong suhol sa jueteng sa tulong ni dating Ilocos Gov. Chavit Singson at iba pang mga kasabwat. Nangolekta rin siya ng komisyon mula sa pagbebenta ng Government Service Insurance System at Social Security System ng shares ng Belle Corporation.
