My friend Meann called me up Thursday morning to ask about Smart’s latest scheme: sending a text message when a prepaid subscriber dials 1515 to make a balance inquiry makes him/her pay one peso for it.

I browsed the Smart website to confirm this and found out that it’s true. Starting May 1, 2003, Smart subscribers will be charged P1.00/balance inquiry beyond their free text allocation for every 1515 inquiry. Read this.
