New DepEd Secretary
Edilberto de Jesus is the new Department of Education secretary. The Palace formally announced his appointment this afternoon. An experienced educator and not a politician, he is president of the Far Eastern University and member of the board of the Ateneo de Manila University. He also served as peace process adviser during the Aquino administration.
De Jesus takes over the position vacated by former Senator Raul Roco. Unlike Foreign Affairs secretary Blas Ople, the new DepEd secretary appears acceptable to various sectors, including the student movement. National Union of Students of the Philippines president and Tinig.com columnist Mong Palatino said while they clash with de Jesus on the tuition increase issue, the new secretary is their ally in the anti-ROTC issue.
Incidentally, de Jesus is the husband of my former boss, Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility executive director Melinda Quintos de Jesus.

To Sec. Edilberto de Jesus,
Good day sir! i would like to ask for your attention regarding the problem occuring here in our Baranggay.recently we experience the flood cause by Ondoy and now we are experiencing problem for our children..we are one of the baranggay here in Laguna to be exact the school that we are fighting for our childrens welfare is named San Pedro Relocation Center National Highschool located here in Landayan San pedro Laguna…there have been news that this school will be closed but because of the protest of parents it wasn’t done but today to be exact we parents had our meeting in our baranggay hall to be informed that teachers in that school is forced to resigned and some are been transfered to other public school nearby..this actions are made with agenda that if they lessen the teachers there will be a qouta for students which means that most of the students who live near the school would no longer be accomodated by the school because teachers are lesser but if we consider the lower class of this baranggay that depend to this Public school so that they can send their children to school, but if this happen sending their children to public school that needs transportation would be a big problem for them.this problem would be their big reason to make their children stop and continue going to school..if this happen many children will lost the opportunity to have a good education as well their future..I admit i belong to the middle class of living I was writing you in concern for this people..I was asking for your attention regarding this matter..this is also a big concern to our country if we lost hundred of children who are Illiterate we will add up a hundred of filipino who are Jobless because of lack of Education.I believe your intentions are for the benefit of our Filipino children>>Thank you for your time and attention…Hope that this anomally will put to stop before the start of this school year…Thank you sir hope you can help with this problem…
