Sen. Tañada is new Bantayog chair

Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation announces the election of Senator Wigberto E. Tañada as the new chairperson of its Board of Trustees, effective September 29, 2016.

Senator Tañada replaces Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco, who has been elevated to chair emeritus since August this year.

The 82-year-old former senator, popularly called Ka Bobby, comes to the Foundation with sterling qualifications. He is the son of the late former senator Lorenzo M. Tañada, often tagged as Philippine politics’ “grand old man.”

Ka Bobby often stood arm-in-arm with his father in many protest rallies staged in opposition to the Marcos dictatorship, suffering hosed water or tear-gas dispersal operations.

He served both as senator and congressman in the Philippine Congress. In 1991, he was with the group of senators under the leadership of then Senate President Jovito R. Salonga when the Senate rejected the renewal of the PHL-U.S. treaty on military bases.

Ka Bobby graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University, Manuel L. Quezon University, and Harvard Law School.

He is lead convenor of the Fair Trade Alliance.

He is also the chairman of the Philippine Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism, the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement, and the Lagawe Rural Bank in Ifugao. He is also the Chairman of Universal Motors Corporation, and is an Independent Director for Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc., and Republic Cement Mindanao Inc.

Ka Bobby hails from Gumaca, Quezon.

Dubbed “The Punisher” and Davao’s “Dirty Harry,” Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte does not mince words. He has been known to lace his speeches with expletives, and his controversial statements are often quoted in the headlines.

In “Wanted: President,” the long-time mayor faces veteran anchor Mel Tiangco as she questions him about his alleged human rights’ abuses and the so-called Davao Death Squad. When Tiangco asks Duterte about how he intends to rid the country of drugs, crime and corruption in six months, Duterte replies, “It could be bloody.”

GMA News and Public Affairs’ election special “Wanted: President” continues to take a closer look at the candidates for presidency this Sunday as former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas accepts the challenge to face the country’s toughest job interview tonight.

Roxas will face Mel Tiangco as the veteran broadcast journalist looks into the real story behind Roxas’ so-called publicity stunts such as directing traffic, driving a tricycle, and carrying sacks of rice. Tiangco also questions Roxas about the government’s slow response to aid the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda and about the anomalies involving the MRT.

Aldub: Ang simula

Laging bukambibig ng maraming Pilipino ngayon ang tambalang Aldub na binubuo nina Alden Richards at Maine Mendoza o Yaya Dub. Sila ang naghahatid ng kilig at kasiyahan sa atin tuwing tanghalian.

Kung dati, naiinis tayo sa mga patalastas sa TV, ngayo’y kinasasabikan nating mapanood ang commercial ng Aldub. Araw-araw na nagte-trend sa Twitter ang mga hashtag na may kaugnayan sa paborito nating loveteam, at nakapagtala pa nga nang mahigit sa anim na milyong tweets sa loob ng 24 oras ang hashtag na #ALDUBTheAbduction noong Sabado. Usong-uso ang signature kaway nilang pabebe wave, at nai-LSS tayo sa mga kantang “God Gave Me You” at “Thinking Out Loud.” Sa loob at labas ng bansa, kinababaliwan ng mga Pinoy ang Aldub.
