'Philippines,' 'Eat Bulaga' enter Twitter's trending topics

“OK time for trending question of the day: What is bulaga and why should one eat it?” Twitter user jerseysam asked earlier this afternoon when Eat Bulaga entered the list of Twitter’s trending topics.

Twitter’s trending topics are “certain words or phrases [that] occur with higher frequency.”

Eat Bulaga became a hot topic on Twitter after American Idol runner-up David Archuleta performed on the popular TV show and Pinoy Twitterers tweeted about it. Eat Bulaga host Pia Guano also mentioned she follows David’s Twitter account, which probably encouraged his Pinoy fans to join the microblogging service.

“Philippines” and “#bookblockade” — a term that refers to the Bureau of Custom’s insistence on taxing imported books — later joined the list.
