I learned from SELaplana that there’s a new Gmail feature called Gmail pictures, which allows users to “put a face to a name.” When when you roll over a name in your inbox, Contacts, or Quick Contacts list, a user-selected picture will be shown. You may choose your own photo and suggest photos for your contacs.
Another new Gmail feature is the sound notification for incoming chats. This requires Flash plugin, and you may turn it off if you wish.
These features have yet to be added to my account, though.
Update: My Gmail profile has a picture now, and in the Google Blog’s official announcement of this feature, Gmail Engineer Vadim Spivak, says the photo users upload on Gmail will also appear in GTalk and vice-versa.
