This year’s two-day VegFest Pilipinas — a festival that showcases products from local independent vegan businesses — begins tomorrow at the BGC Arts Center in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

In its fourth year, VegFest Pilipinas will host 150 all-vegan vendors who will be offering their dishes and wares from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Both vegans and non-vegans are welcome at VegFest Pilipinas for a weekend filled with workshops, group exercises, and entertainment. Attendees may sample cholesterol-free vegan food that has very low carbon footprint.

This year’s theme is “Live Kindly for the Community,” as being vegan means sparing animals from suffering. Vegan food is free of any meat, seafood, eggs, dairy, and honey — all coming from creatures who are able to feel and perceive things.

“‘But what can vegans eat?’ is always the question. The answer is simply anything that comes from plants. If you think that sounds boring, hold the judgment, because there are vegan versions of liempo, hotdogs, isaw, sisig, empanadas, and even bacon. Any food can be veganized,” says VegFest Pilipinas in a statement.

Every year, VegFest Pilipinas donates proceeds of the two-day festival to worthy causes. This year, one beneficiary is Go Palakas, a program that provides malnourished children with wholesome vegan food as well as physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual guidance and exercises. Another is Animal Rescue Family, a local animal rescue group that does life-saving work through animal rescues and adoption. Both organizations rely on donations.

Animal Rescue Family is one of the beneficiaries of VegFest Pilipinas.

Organizers say it is the biggest VegFest Pilipinas yet, as there was a 50% increase in the number of vegan merchants who signed up.
