Journalist Jose Burgos, Jr. passed away from a stroke and its associated complications Sunday morning at the Cardinal Santos hospital in San Juan town, Metro Manila. He was 62.

His wake is at his farm in Tartaro, San Miguel town, Bulacan province, nephew Raymond Burgos told INQ7.net.

Burgos was the founder of the Malaya and We Forum newspapers and was one of the first journalists to challenge the dictatorship of president Ferdinand Marcos during martial law.

“I condole with the family of Malaya founder Jose Burgos, Jr who died today. He was a pillar of Philippine journalism and a staunch freedom fighter. He devoted his entire journalistic career to an unrelenting pursuit of truth, fairness, and objectivity. The country will surely miss his crusading efforts especially in these times.”

Tama siya: “The country will surely miss his crusading efforts especially in these times.”
