GMA News wins a Peabody for its Yolanda coverage

peabody GMA News’ special coverage on the assault and aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda earned for the network – and the country – its fourth George Foster Peabody Award.

GMA news teams were reporting from all over the Visayas region on the 8th of November 2013, when the super typhoon, and the powerful storm surge that followed, took the lives of thousands in just a few minutes. In the aftermath, families were in search of the missing and surrounded by the dead. There was no food or water and no communication with the outside world. News teams were documenting the victims of the disaster even as they faced the same conditions.

The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) has announced that it is offering five-day courses on the use of creative means to teach.

Aside from offering regular theater and arts courses, PETA has also pioneered the Theater-in-Education (TIE) Courses to make classroom teaching more interesting and engaging by introducing creative means of teaching for regular subjects like Mathematics, English, Filipino, Science, etc.

MCCCL condemns killing of Bishop Ramento

The Movement of Concerned Citizens for Civil Liberties (MCCCL) strongly condemns the gruesome murder of Philippine Independent Church 9th Obispo Maximo BISHOP ALBERTO RAMENTO in Tarlac and FR. DIONISIO GINGGING also of the same church in Surigao del Sur.

Don't make media political pawn

NUJP Press Statement

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) is gravely concerned with developments following the burning of the ABS-CBN OB van.

NUJP condemns any line of reasoning that implies displeasure over media reports -- whether for real or imagined slights -- is enough excuse for violence. This is unacceptable. While the NUJP joins other media groups in campaigning for ethical reportage, it will consistently fight any attempt to bend media by coercion.
