A(H1N1), nakapatay na sa Pilipinas

Naitala kahapon ang unang biktima ng A (H1N1) — aka swine flu — sa Pilipinas.

Iniulat ni Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III ang pagpanaw ng isang 49-year old na babaeng may sakit sa puso at na-test na positibo sa H1N1.

Heart failure ang ikinamatay ng biktima, ngunit maaaring ang sakit niya sa puso ay pinalala ng flu virus. Noong Hunyo 17 daw ay nagkaroon siya ng dry cough, lagnat, chills, at nahirapang huminga.

“Given the available information, we cannot conclude that the death is due to A (H1N1). But in other countries which have reported A (H1N1) deaths, majority have pre-existing medical conditions. We condole with the family of the patient as we mourn her untimely death,” ani Duque said.

Nakakatakot man ang balitang ito, di tayo dapat mag-panic. Di naman daw lahat ng kakapitan ng H1N1 ay mamamatay. Mas marami pa rin ang gumagaling.

Pero delikado sa H1N1 ang mga taong may dati nang sakit gaya ng diabetes, frank cardiovascular disease, COPD, sakit sa bato at atay, mga may HIV/AIDs o may TB, yung mga organ transplant recipients at mga immunocompromised, mga buntis, mga matatanda, at mga bata.

“It is prudent for parents to seek professional care for children with rapid breathing, excessive drowsiness or dehydration. In adults, chest pain, prolonged fever or labored breathing should prompt warnings to see a doctor,” ani Duque.

Payo pa niya: “The best defense against A (H1N1) and other diseases is to boost your immune system. Most people can fight off this virus without special medications or hospitalization. You can stay at home and take supportive care like plenty of fluids, vitamins and bed rest.”

As of June 19, nakapagtala na ang World Health Organization ng 44,287 kaso ng H1N1 sa 90 mga bansa, at 180 sa mga ito ang namatay.
