A new book titled “Kon(tra)teksto: Pag-uungkat, Pag-uulat at Pagmumulat” by Danilo Araña Arao is already off the press.
Launched last June 11 by the De La Salle University (DLSU) Publishing House and Central Books, the book contains 50 essays in Filipino focusing on journalism, media, education, politics and economics. There are also personal essays included in the book.
In the book’s introduction, Arao stresses the need to raise discourse to a higher level, hence the need for the concept of “kon(tra)teksto,” a word that does not exist in the Filipino language but which he defines as a critical analysis of alternatives to “widely-accepted arguments” particularly of the powers-that-be.
