A Call to All Filipino Patriots

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, People’s Patriotic Movement, and Bayan Muna invite us to “Panata ng Bayan,” an indoor Rally & Cultural Program with Vice President Teofisto Guingona, former Senator Wigberto Tañada, and other patriotic leaders on July 4, 2003, 10:00 am-12:00 noon, at Colegio de San Juan de Letran Gym in Intramuros, Manila.

This year, there are two reasons why we should take July 4, now called Philippine-American Friendship Day, as an occasion to highlight our patriotism and the Filipino people’s national democratic aspirations.

On forwarded emails

My email signature is: “If you are one of those insufferable idiots who forward anything that promises ‘something bad will happen if you don’t,’ then something bad will happen to you if I ever meet you in a dark alley.”

That’s because I’m tired of all the forwarded chain mails that I keep on getting from friends and colleagues who aren’t even considerate enough to put my address in the BCC field of their email client to prevent spammers from getting hold of my address.

Here, let me share you something that we should recite everyday. It’s a compilation of anti-chain mails and stupid forwards that I gathered from email and the Web:

Sino'ng Pumatay sa Senado?

A dead institution . . . that has not produced anything” daw ang Senado, sabi ni Kit Tatad, dating senador at ngayo’y chair ng advisory council ng Pwersa ng Masa. Funny naman that one, hehehe.

Work of Mosquito Press Cited

(From Today/abs-cbnNEWS.com, June 22, 2003)

Former President Corazon Aquino on Saturday paid tribute to the indispensable role of the Alternative Press in the overall struggle against the Marcos dictatorship, and said its work and the lessons from its experiences should be disseminated so that people will always remain vigilant over their freedoms.

In a speech at the prelaunching of the book The Mosquito Years: The Alternative Press in the Shadow of a Dictator at the National Press Club in Intramuros, Manila, Aquino recalled how difficult it was to publicize any critical comment against martial law, with the dictatorship having full control of mass media.
